Vasilis and Danae Salapatas have been extremely generous to DMSE over the years. Their latest contribution allowed for the construction of the Laboratory for Advanced Materials (the LAM), that you may have  seen along building 8 of the infinite corridor.

The RFL produced one of the gifts that will be given to the Salapatas family tomorrow during the LAM opening ceremony: a large laser engraved version of the invitation sent out to invited guests. We decided the invitation looked best engraved into black anodized aluminum.

For those laser users out there, we used a Universal V460 60 W laser cutter, with settings of 30% power, 100% speed at 500 ppi. We ran two passes to try to get the engraved area to look higher-contrast.  Results are below!
